The Rosebud class is for twelve children who are three by September 1 and who are potty trained. The Rosebuds meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am - 1 pm, and their parents take turns helping in the classroom roughly once every six weeks. The Rosebud class is a gentle introduction to the daily routines of school life. For many children, preschool is the first significant time spent away from their parents. It can be disconcerting and downright scary for some children. At Woodhaven, our friendly teacher and comfortable environment make children feel at home. (A one-week summer camp also provides a chance for children to enjoy a taste of school and arrive on the first day in September at a fond place that is familiar.)

All the activities of the classroom are experienced through the lens of the three-year-old. There is a focus on socialization and we model how to share toys and ideas with one another. The children discuss how their words and actions affect other members of the community. Students are encouraged to explore and play in both small and large groups. As the year progresses, the interactions become more complex and meaningful.

The classroom curriculum centers on seasonal changes and observations of the natural world. Seasonal themes guide daily activities, including art projects, cooking, nature table, dramatic play, outdoor exploration, and music. Rosebuds are empowered to make choices for themselves. Our teacher listens to the children and gears the day’s activities toward their interests. New opportunities are met with curiosity and enthusiasm.
(If your child just misses the September 1st cut off, please call us to discuss your options.)
